Gareth Edwards British, b. 1960
The central image in this painting is a Tree of Knowledge, the mythical apple tree. Two apple trees bear important fruit in the Human History, the poetical myth of Eve's Temptation and Sir Isaac Newton's from which once a falling apple was observed drew a conclusion about Gravity. Both pivotal fruits, both about Falling. One leads to poetry and myth, one leads to science and knowledge.
This painting plays a gentle homage to both areas of Human Knowledge by conflating them in one image. The Fruit is in the Falling, everything is revealed once the apple falls.
