| Born Sussex,
1971. Studied at Huddersfield College and Slade School of Art graduating
in 1994, having also completed a year's course in Anatomy for Artists.
He received two awards in 1994 and 1996 from the Greek Government and
has since lived and worked in Greece. In 1998 he won the BP Portrait Prize
and in June 1999 had his first solo exhibition in Britain at Jill George
Gallery, which immediately sold out.
Tomas' subsequent solo exhibitions at the Gallery in 2001, 2003, 2005
and 2007 have been equally as successful. Tomas continued with developing
his printmaking with an exhibition in 2006 of a series of softground etchings
and monoprints based on his travels in India. His most recent solo exhibition
at the Gallery starts in June 2009.
His portrait of John Fowles, commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery,
was unveiled in February 2002 and is now back on display following Fowles'
death in November 2005.
